Presented by HMI’s Cheryl O’Neil, C.Ht., this lesson compares and contrasts the counseling styles and strategies of Psychoanalysis, Behaviorism, and Humanism as well as Freud, Carl Rogers and others.

Cheryl guides the students in the successful integration of these styles into their Hypnotherapy careers. Each class begins with a Group Imagery experience to help students prepare to become successful hypnotherapists. Partnering up for practice is also a part of each class.

This four lesson course is a required core curriculum for HMI Resident Students/Interns, now through the magic of streaming video you can learn and add these skills to your hypnotherapy practice from the comfort of your own home.

What this Course Contains

Class 1: Main topic focused on Preparing to Interview and Counsel, Psycho-Spiritual Thoughts and Questions discussed and exercise practiced in pairs, Directive and Non-Directive Listening Response discussed, Projection Exercise practiced in group and pairs.

Class 2: Main topic focused on Evolution of Counseling Approaches: Analytical, Behavioral, and Humanistic with the emphasis on the first two. Also, topics discussed of First Session Review, Interviewing Objectives, and Erick Erickson’s Psycho-Social Stages of Development. Practice in pairs doing Interviewing Objectives and The Just Listen Exercise.

Class 3: Consciousness Exercise from homework assignment discussed, Humanistic approach to therapy, Carl Rogers noted and Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Review of HMI Counseling Tools, other kinds of tools, instructor demos, practice in pairs with Interview Objectives and/or Just Listen Exercise.

Class 4: “Dos and Don’ts” of Counseling discussed, Remaining demos/tools from Class Three completed, Putting it all together with E&P discussion, Secrets of Successful Relationships, and practice in pairs with E&P Questions.
