Ladies are you using Pinterest To Market Your Business?

Now I will be honest, I gave this a try and gave up about 18 months ago because I did not believe my target market were hanging out on Pinterest. Plus I also felt my marketing time could be better spent elsewhere eg Podcasting. So I decided to just ignore it and get on with my business.

Then something strange started to happen!

In the last 3-6 months I started noticing a lot of changes happening. I started seeing a bit of a shift in the market and that a lot of women in my peer group were starting to use it more and more and started to get some serious results as well.

Then it started getting even weirder….like someone was forcing me to pay attention to what was going on…. let me explain…

About 2 years ago when I was looking through some of my old files on my computer I came across some of my old poems from one of my ‘start up business 5 years prior’ …Yes strangely enough I actually love writing poetry.

You see when I first got started online I had no idea what I wanted to do and I was just trying to figure out how to create a website and sell on the web, so I created an online card website where people could share my poems with people they cared about [see sample poem below].

Then when Pinterest became popular and I was having a play with it back then I remember someone telling me that poems were really popular, so I decided to upload some of these poems and just see what happened. Then about 6 months later, I got busy with my book business and forgot all about them.

Fast forward 2 years later…..

About 8 weeks ago I started getting all these emails in my inbox from Pinterest and I could not for the life of me figure out why. Seriously, I had not even looked at Pinterest for ages outside of seeing someone’s Pin on my facebook stream so it just did not make sense why all of a sudden I would start getting these Pinterest emails.

So I went in search of some answers and this is what I found…

Low and behold it was coming from my poems that I had upload over 2 years prior…go figure, people actually really liked my poems.

As you can see above this one poem alone has been repinned 309 times, love hearted 109 times and 3 comments. I was totally gob smacked!

I also noticed that it was promoting my previous brand SheExperts.com and I thought to myself….’What would happen if I changed it to promoting my PamBrossman.com website or even better my SelfPublishYou.com book writing programs?’

Well I only made that decision today, so I will let you know how I go.

But it got me thinking about how many other women are seriously monetizing Pinterest and that is when I came across Melanie.
