You put all this into my three step process of practicing. First you build the initial ability to play the exercise. Then you take it to the level where you can play it unconsciously at a low level of speed.

– And then the speed building starts. This process is largely automatic, effortless and unconscious and you can do it while being entertained by other things. Sounds weird? It isn't. It's the method I have used to build my skills while having eight hours of school, homework and a part time job.
