This course will show you how to navigate:

• Your initial meeting with your editor. Ascertaining their preferences for editing room setup, Avid settings, project organization and hardware requirements.
• What you need to know BEFORE you start shooting. Your pre-production tasks. Meeting your main contacts on the set including camera department, script supervisor, sound recordist, digital imaging technician (DIT) and others.
• The production process. Dailies workflow, paperwork, copying and organizing media, synching, grouping and marking clips, bin organization, the digital codebook, (database) and keeping a clear line of communication with production, whether local or on location.
• Temp Sound Effects (SFX) Music (MX) Visual Effects (VFX). Tracking and versioning VFX (in the digital codebook) Organizing scene and reel assemblies, and what to do with lifts and alternative versions of scenes. Prepping for in-house screenings, measurements and timings and outputs and security.
• Preparation and managing studio and recruited audience previews and test screenings.
• The finishing process. Spotting with your sound designer and composer, finalizing VFX, turnovers, creating the digital intermediate and what happens when the cut changes AFTER picture lock.
