Approach to the canine geriatric cancer patient
The sheer numbers involved in companion animal cancer demonstrate the size of the problem. It is thought that one in four dogs will develop cancer and it is the biggest killer of dogs over the age of ten. This talk will outline an approach to cancer in geriatric patients, including considerations around staging and diagnosis. The most common cancers will be discussed in greater detail, including relevant treatment options. Case examples will be used to illustrate considerations and decision making in older patients especially those with concurrent disease.
What you’ll learn:
- List and understand the common cancers affecting older dogs
- Understand a logical approach to staging and diagnosis
- Consider a range of treatment options
- Understand management of dogs with concurrent disease
Managing canine medical conditions in old age
