Post-Processing Video Tutorials

In these tutorials, I’ll show you the post-processing behind some of my favorite images. You’ll learn techniques for creating dramatic and compelling imagery, while maintaining clean and realistic results. I’ll explain the major decisions in the process as I go along, so that you can learn how to apply these ideas in your own work. You’ll learn something new in each course, as they cover different types of scenes and light.

My workflow is designed to be non-destructive: you can usually go back and make changes to any step. Only Adobe Photoshop CC and Adobe Camera Raw (or Lightroom) are necessary, though I do recommend the TK7 Panel for masking. You should be comfortable with layers and masks in Photoshop to get the most out of these tutorials. A downsized PSD file will be included so that you can see how all my layers work or follow along on your own.

Edge of Light

Released: September 2019

In this video tutorial three-pack, I’ll show you how I work creatively with common occurrences of light in three of my favorite images: “Crescendo”, “Funnel Factory”, and “Agon Wastes”. These photos feature three of my favorite types of light: the last direct sunlight of the evening, soft pre-dawn twilight, and dappled afternoon light created by cloud shadows. These kinds of light occur all the time, and I’ll show you ways to harness their potential. You’ll learn a variety of ideas and techniques for working creatively with light and color in your photographs, so that you can create dramatic and realistic finished works in many different situations outside of blazing sunrises and sunsets.

Three Trees

In this video tutorial three-pack, I cover the post-production of three very different tree images: “Ariandel”, “Forest Haven”, and “Rainbow Rider”. While the forest is a common theme among these photographs, they feature greatly varied atmosphere, color, and light. You’ll learn a wide variety of techniques due to their diversity, but it will also be helpful to see which techniques I use on all three, so that you can learn how to apply them to any situation and any type of light.
