Injection Techniques for the Family Physician
1. Understand landmark-based and ultrasound-guided injection techniques that can be performed in the office.
2. Understand the indications and contraindications for Joint Injections
3. Be able to select appropriate anti-inflammatory and anesthetic medications for injection
4. Be able to select an appropriate needle size and syringe size for joint injections
Ultrasound in the Office
- Be able to list at least three uses for Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in the family practice office
- Understand how to safely use Ultrasound to assist with joint injections
- Understand how to use Ultrasound to diagnose pneumonia in the family practice office
- Understand how to use Ultrasound to estimate fluid status in the family practice office

Chad Carlson is the owner/operator of Stadia Sports Medicine in West Des Moines, Iowa.He completed a family medicine residency at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1997, and his fellowship in Sports Medicine at Ball State University in 1999.He is a former team physician at the University of Illinois -Champaign.He has fellow status through the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM).Dr. Carlson's current appointments include a four-yearterm on the Executive Committee of AMSSM, where he just completed a term as President.Previous to that, he served two elected terms on AMSSM's Board of Directors from 2009-2013.He sits on the Health and Science Policy Committee for ACSM andhas chaired their Clinical Medicine Subcommittee.He currently serves as an appointed member of the NCAA's COVID-19 advisory group.He is also an appointed member of the Board of Directors of the Physical Activity Alliance in Washington D.C. andhas been a member of the Iowa Medical Society's Sports Medicine Subcommittee since 2009.He has authored many published papers and has spokenon many topics, locally and nationally.
Dr. Carlson is a member of the Board of Directors of Running the Race –a Sports Medicine Medical Missional organization serving Kenyan runners.He has served as elder at Westkirk Presbyterian Church in Urbandale.He and his wife Amanda have three children who they homeschool. He enjoys spending time with his family, exercing, has interests in history and politics, and is currently working with his daughter on an abridged version of the Federalist Papers for children.

Tom Benzoni, DO Related seminars and products: 3
Dr. Benzoni has practiced EM since completing medical school in 1983. He spent 4 years with the Public Health Service in the Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Kentucky. There he helped to build a hospital that still functions today. After a stint in New York, he lived, worked and developed a trauma center in Sioux City, where he put DC10s in corn fields. He worked with the state of Iowa in developing Iowa’s trauma system. He has worked with patients in pain for his entire career, working before the opioid epidemic. Dr. Benzoni currently works at a Trauma Center in Des Moines and teaches medical and PA students
