Goals & Objectives:
· Identify barriers in the treatment of hypertension in the primary care setting.
· Diagram the main difference in JNC8 as compared to prior guidelines.
· Identify indications for the workup for secondary causes of hypertension.

The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. Dr. Whaley-Connell is the Associate Chief of Staff for Research and Development and a staff physician at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital. He is also Professor of Medicine in the division of nephrology and hypertension at the University of Missouri Columbia School of Medicine. Dr. Whaley-Connell earned his DO degree at KCU College of Osteopathic Medicine and then completed his residency at the University of Missouri in Columbia in internal medicine where he was chief resident. He then completed a nephrology fellowship at the University of Missouri.
